I Left My Daughter’s Birthday Without Arguing After My Family Crossed a Boundary… Five Years Later, One Folder Revealed What They Never Expected.

Five years down the road, my firm was routinely designing monumental sweet structures for grand hotels, high-end weddings, and major corporate galas across the region. I employed twelve full-time staff members, owned a massive state-of-the-art workshop, and had accumulated more than enough wealth to fully secure my daughter’s future.

Then, completely out of the blue, Tristan’s estranged wife, Vanessa, walked into my executive office.

She slowly removed her large dark sunglasses, revealing a deep purple bruise poorly concealed under heavy foundation makeup.

“I am officially filing for divorce,” Vanessa stated, her voice trembling slightly. “And I urgently need you to look through these financial records.”

She placed a thick yellow folder directly on my desk.

Inside were internal accounting ledgers from Barrett Construction, my father’s commercial firm.

There were massive money transfers to fraudulent shell companies, lavish foreign vacations, luxury sports cars, heavy gambling debts, and illegal withdrawals directly from the employee pension fund.

“Tristan has secretly embezzled over forty million dollars from the company over the past five years,” Vanessa whispered softly. “Your father gave him full legal power of attorney after his stroke last year, and Tristan recently placed a massive second mortgage on your parents’ estate.”

“Does Charles even know about any of this theft?” I asked, scanning the fraudulent numbers.

“He honestly believes Tristan is actively saving the family firm from financial ruin,” Vanessa replied grimly. “Tomorrow morning, they are desperately trying to sell majority control of the company to an investment equity firm named Apex Capital because they desperately need cash before an audit hits.”

She suddenly stopped and looked up at the polished corporate logo mounted on my office wall. “Wait, you are the managing director behind Apex Capital, aren’t you?”

I picked up my desk phone without hesitation. “Mr. Spellman, please prepare the immediate acquisition papers for Barrett Construction. I will personally lead the board meeting tomorrow morning.”

Vanessa looked at me with deep concern. “What are you planning to do to them?”

“I am going to save the innocent construction workers from losing everything,” I answered coolly.

“And what about your family?” she asked quietly.

I remembered the rainy night Lila asked me if Tristan hurting her was somehow her own fault. “My family had five long years to decide who they wanted to be.”

The very next morning, I stepped into the corporate boardroom at exactly nine o’clock.

My father, my mother, and Tristan were sitting at the end of the long conference table, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the mysterious equity buyer.

When Tristan saw me walk through the double doors, he burst into arrogant laughter. “Are you working as a hired driver for real investors now, Andy?”
