The birth of our triplets should have brought us closer. Instead, my politician husband made a choice that revealed where his priorities truly were.

My breath caught. Then Nora’s voice.

“What if she dies?”

A pause. Julian answered.

“Then we control the narrative.”

My sister covered her mouth. I couldn’t move.

The recording continued. Nora asked, “And the babies?”

Julian’s voice became quieter. “If they survive, they’re useful.”

I felt something inside me break. My attorney stopped the recording.

“There’s more.” He handed me another document. “The hotel security system automatically records audio in the VIP suites.”

I stared at him. “So this is admissible?”

“Potentially devastating.” He pressed play again.

This time, Nora spoke. “What about the other problem?”

Julian sighed. “Which one?”

“The documents she signed last month.”

My blood ran cold. “What documents?”

My attorney looked at me. “That’s what we need to discuss.” He placed a second folder on the bed. Inside were copies of documents bearing my signature. Financial authorizations. Campaign transfers. A series of corporate guarantees. And one document that made my stomach turn: a resignation from a family foundation.

I hadn’t signed any of them.

My attorney pointed to the final page. “Your husband has been moving money through accounts in your name.”

I stared at the forged signature. “How much?”

He hesitated. “Approximately $18 million.”

My heart stopped. “Where did it go?”

“That’s the problem.” He turned the page. “Some went into campaign operations.”
