A 6-year-old followed hospital signs while pushing her newborn brothers toward help. When she finally reached the doors, she could finally let the grown-ups take over.

“MY MOMMY HAS BEEN SLEEPING FOR THREE DAYS”: A 6-YEAR-OLD GIRL PUSHED HER NEWBORN TWINS FOR MILES TO SAVE THEM—AND WHAT HAPPENED NEXT LEFT EVERYONE SPEECHLESS.

When the emergency room receptionist heard the wheelbarrow squeak through the automatic doors, she looked up expecting to see a child pushing some kind of toy.

The squeak came again.

Then receptionist Angela Morris saw the girl’s tiny hands wrapped around two rusty metal handles and two bundles tucked beneath mismatched blankets.

Angela stood immediately.

The little girl couldn’t have been older than six.

Her brown hair was tangled, her face streaked with dirt, and her oversized sweater nearly reached her knees.

Her shoes were covered in mud.

One shoelace was missing.

Her palms were red from gripping the wheelbarrow handles.

But it was what lay inside that made Angela run.

Two newborn babies.

One wore a pale yellow cap.

The other was wrapped inside what looked like an old blue bath towel.

Both were frighteningly quiet.

“Sweetheart, where did you get these babies?”

The girl looked at Angela.

“They’re mine.”

Angela froze.

The child quickly corrected herself.

“My brothers.”

That made considerably more sense, but nothing about the situation was normal.

Angela pressed the emergency call button.

Within seconds, nurses appeared.

One carefully lifted the first baby.

Another took the second.

The girl immediately panicked.

“Don’t take them!”

“We’re helping them.”

“They need milk.”
