She tried to control what I could eat inside my own house. That was when I decided enough was enough.

I tried setting boundaries.

“Please don’t use my office without asking.”

Lorraine smiled. “Family doesn’t need appointments.”

“Trevor, I need the car tomorrow.”

He laughed from my couch. “Daniel said I could use it.”

Every conversation ended the same way: Daniel rubbing his forehead and whispering, “Can you just be flexible? They’re going through a hard time.”

Apparently, their hard time required my home, my car, my groceries, and my silence.

I had paid the down payment myself, renovated every room, and covered every repair long before Daniel’s family moved in. Lorraine knew that.
