My Sister-in-Law Tried to Take My 80-Year-Old Father’s $11 Million Estate—But She Didn’t Know I Was a Former FBI Agent.

It was Ryan, the brother who had witnessed the disputed guardianship documents and apparently helped Chloe gain access to our father’s fortune.

I answered, expecting another lie or an attempt to persuade me to abandon the investigation. Instead, I heard a trembling voice that barely resembled the confident man I’d known all my life.

“Emma, please. I need to tell you what Chloe has done, and I need you to hear me before it’s too late.”

 Part 4: My Brother’s Confession

Ryan’s voice sounded so shaken that I barely recognized him. He begged me to meet him, insisting there were things about Chloe that I needed to understand before she destroyed our family completely.

I didn’t trust him, especially after discovering his signature on the documents intended to strip Dad of his independence. Nevertheless, I agreed to hear him out under conditions that would prevent him from bringing anyone else.

“You have ten minutes. Meet me on the third underground level of the federal building’s parking garage, and come alone.”

Ryan arrived wearing a wrinkled designer suit, his eyes bloodshot and his hands visibly trembling. He looked exhausted, as though he hadn’t slept in days, and struggled to meet my gaze.

“You think I planned everything,” he said. “You think I wanted Dad to get hurt.”

“I know you signed the medical proxy, Ryan. You helped Chloe prepare to have our father declared incompetent while his money disappeared.”

Ryan leaned against a concrete pillar and covered his face with his hands. When he finally answered, his voice was thick with shame.

“I didn’t want any of this, Emma. She forced me.”

I demanded an explanation, unwilling to accept fear as an excuse for betraying our father. Ryan eventually admitted that the situation had begun three years earlier, when his business was approaching bankruptcy.

Desperate to keep his firm operating, he’d secretly taken money from clients’ pension funds. He claimed he’d intended to repay everything, but Chloe discovered the fraudulent transactions before he could conceal them.

“She found the ledgers,” he confessed. “She threatened to send them to the SEC unless I did exactly what she wanted.”

According to Ryan, Chloe used the evidence to pressure him into marrying her and giving her access to Dad’s financial accounts. She threatened to expose his crimes and send him to prison whenever he resisted.

When Dr. Leonard Voss arrived to evaluate our father, Ryan already knew Chloe intended to obtain legal control over the estate. She forced him to witness the disputed medical documents by threatening to report his embezzlement immediately.

“So you sacrificed Dad to protect yourself?” I asked.

Ryan lowered his head, unable to deny it. He admitted that his cowardice had allowed Chloe to isolate and intimidate our father, although he insisted he’d finally tried to confront her after witnessing the physical abuse.

“I told her it had to stop,” he explained. “That’s when she decided to destroy you, too.”

He confirmed that Chloe had arranged for offshore accounts to be opened using my stolen identity. She’d been preparing to frame me for the missing money long before I became involved in Dad’s case.

Ryan then produced a prepaid phone containing access to files he’d secretly copied from Chloe’s computer. He claimed the evidence included financial records and recordings of conversations between Chloe and Dr. Voss.

“I know you may never forgive me,” he said. “But I want to help stop her before she hurts Dad again.”

I took the phone and asked where Chloe was hiding. Ryan explained that she’d disappeared approximately an hour earlier after discovering that I’d removed Dad from the family home.

Before he could say more, the phone received a message from Dr. Voss. The physician claimed Chloe had become dangerously unstable and was planning to kill both Dad and me.

He instructed me to meet him alone at an abandoned train depot on Fourth Street, promising to provide original documents and reveal Chloe’s true identity.

Ryan read the message over my shoulder and immediately became alarmed.

“Emma, don’t go. She’s setting a trap.”

I understood the danger, but Voss might possess evidence that could expose the entire operation. I told Ryan to remain at the federal building while I investigated the lead.

As I walked toward my car, my brother called after me with one final warning.

“You don’t understand how much Chloe hates our family. This isn’t only about Dad’s money.”

At the abandoned depot, I found Dr. Voss waiting inside the old ticket office with a leather briefcase. He looked terrified and quickly admitted that he’d helped Chloe prepare fraudulent psychological evaluations to support the guardianship scheme.

He claimed their original plan had been to isolate Dad, seize control of his estate, and disappear with the money. But Chloe had begun liquidating assets into difficult-to-trace investments, and Voss feared she intended to kill anyone who could expose her.

Inside his briefcase, I found forged medical documents and an old courtroom photograph. The picture showed my late mother standing near a handcuffed man, while a teenage girl watched her with unmistakable hatred.

I recognized the girl immediately. It was Chloe.

Voss swallowed nervously when I demanded to know who the man was.

“Her real name is Cassandra Vale,” he admitted. “And the man in handcuffs was her father, Arthur Vale.”

My mother had exposed Arthur’s fraudulent investment scheme twenty years earlier, leading to his imprisonment. He’d subsequently died by suicide, leaving Cassandra convinced that my mother had destroyed her family.

I finally understood that Chloe’s marriage to Ryan had never been a coincidence. She’d deliberately entered our family to punish every person connected to the woman she blamed for her father’s death.

Before I could question Voss further, my radio crackled with an urgent message from the agent guarding Dad’s hospital room. Someone had triggered a fire alarm, breached the secured area, and abducted my father during the confusion.

Moments later, an unknown number sent a photograph showing Dad bound and gagged inside a familiar room. I recognized the wallpaper and hardwood floors immediately because they belonged to the childhood home Ryan and I thought had been sold ten years earlier.
