I Donated Part of My Liver to Save My Nephew—Then Discovered My Husband’s Secret.

I became the practical daughter who was expected to pay for everything. Over the years, I covered Brittany’s Park Avenue apartment, which cost $12,400 a month, along with her personal expenses and Hudson’s private education.

My mother’s country club memberships, cosmetic treatments, and elaborate vacations also came out of my accounts. Whenever I questioned the spending, she accused me of being selfish and reminded me that successful daughters were supposed to take care of their families.

Preston had benefited even more directly from my generosity. When his financial career struggled, I invested $2.5 million of my own money to help establish the hedge fund that eventually gave him his prestigious position.

I’d convinced myself that supporting them would eventually earn their loyalty and affection. Instead, every contribution became another expense they assumed I would continue paying indefinitely.

Hudson was the only person in that family who never seemed interested in my wealth. He was a thoughtful ten-year-old who loved marine biology, asked endless questions about the ocean, and preferred spending quiet afternoons reading to attending his mother’s elaborate social gatherings.

When his liver condition became critical, I couldn’t bear the thought of losing him. I underwent the donor evaluations, rearranged my professional responsibilities, and entrusted temporary management of my firm to my chief financial officer, Margaret.

I had never expected repayment for saving Hudson’s life. But lying in that hospital bed, I finally understood that Brittany, Preston, and Beatrice had interpreted my sacrifice as one last opportunity to take advantage of me.

Dr. Harrison’s voice pulled me back to the present. He opened the binder to the third page and placed it where Preston could see the medical findings.

“You’ve repeatedly claimed that you’re Hudson’s biological father, Mr. Sterling. But the genetic information in this report raises a very serious problem with that claim.”

Preston gave a dismissive laugh, although I noticed his expression tighten. He insisted that a private clinic had confirmed his paternity years earlier and accused the doctor of interfering in matters that didn’t concern him.

“We already had a paternity test. Brittany and I know the truth.”

“Then you should explain why the medical findings are inconsistent with that result.”

Brittany immediately stopped smiling, and Beatrice stepped closer to Preston as though she could protect him from whatever the doctor was about to reveal. I remained silent, watching the confidence drain from their faces.

Dr. Harrison pointed to the relevant section of the report and looked directly at my husband.

“Mr. Sterling, your medical records indicate a congenital reproductive condition associated with infertility. The findings do not support your claim that you fathered Hudson.”

Preston shook his head, refusing to accept what he was hearing. He demanded another explanation, but the doctor continued with a calmness that made his words even more devastating.

“According to the records available to us, you’ve been infertile since birth. The paternity story you’ve relied on for ten years appears to be false.”

For the first time since entering my room, Preston looked genuinely frightened. Then he slowly turned toward Brittany, whose trembling hands had begun clutching the expensive shawl around her shoulders.

“Brittany,” he whispered, “if Hudson isn’t my son, whose child have I been raising?”

Part 3: The Secret That Destroyed Their Perfect Lie

Preston stood beside my hospital bed, staring at Brittany as though he were seeing her for the first time. The woman who had confidently announced their decade-long affair was now trembling, desperately searching for an explanation that could save her carefully constructed lie.

“Answer me, Brittany. If Hudson isn’t my son, then whose child is he?”

Brittany shook her head and insisted that Dr. Harrison had made a mistake. She claimed that hospitals occasionally confused medical records, but her increasingly frantic voice made it obvious that she knew more than she was admitting.

“Preston, please calm down. You know we’ve always been a family.”

“Stop avoiding the question! I’ve spent ten years believing that boy was mine!”

Dr. Harrison explained that the available medical findings contradicted Preston’s supposed paternity. He recommended appropriate confirmation through independent testing, but Preston was already remembering the private clinic report Brittany had shown him years earlier.

He turned toward her again, demanding to know whether that document had been fabricated. Brittany’s silence finally destroyed the last of his confidence.

For years, Preston had secretly transferred money to Brittany while pretending to be a devoted husband to me. He now admitted that he’d been sending her approximately $8,000 every month, believing those payments were helping support his biological son.

“I stayed married to Victoria because I thought I was protecting my child. I gave you money, lied to my wife, and risked everything for you!”

Brittany began crying, but Preston refused to let her interrupt. When he demanded the identity of Hudson’s biological father one final time, she finally surrendered.

“It was Sterling Montgomery! It happened during a weekend in the Hamptons, before he fired you!”

Preston stumbled backward, gripping the edge of a chair for support. Sterling Montgomery was his former managing partner, the wealthy businessman who had denied him a partnership and dismissed him five years earlier.

Brittany confessed that she’d pursued Sterling because she believed his wealth could guarantee her future. When his wife discovered their relationship, he abandoned her, leaving Brittany to convince Preston that Hudson was his child.

“I didn’t know what else to do! You believed me, and I needed someone who would support us!”

Preston stared at her with open disgust, realizing that he’d spent a decade financing another man’s child while betraying the wife who had funded his career. Their relationship had been built on the same deception they’d intended to use against me.

Beatrice immediately recognized that their scheme was collapsing. She moved toward my bed, suddenly adopting the affectionate voice she hadn’t used when Preston threw divorce papers onto my incision.

“Victoria, darling, you see what they’ve done? Your sister was clearly manipulated. We need to stay together and protect this family.”

I looked at her, remembering how she’d praised Brittany only minutes earlier for supposedly preserving the family’s bloodline. Her sudden concern had nothing to do with my recovery and everything to do with the financial security she feared losing.
