I Never Imagined My Own Father Would Force Me to Leave My Home While I Was Eight Months Pregnant and Grieving the Loss of My Husband.

After my husband died, my dad dragged me by the hair and threw me out of my own home while I was eight months pregnant. My water broke as my 24-year-old stepmother stood there laughing in my face. I screamed, reached into my bag, and made one phone call. Minutes later, they both realized they had just lost everything.

My husband had been dead for six weeks when my father decided the house he left me somehow belonged to him.

I was eight months pregnant, barely sleeping, and still finding Daniel’s coffee mug in the cabinet and crying over it. Dad had moved into our guest room after the funeral, saying I shouldn’t be alone. His new wife, Madison, came with him. She was twenty-four—eleven years younger than me—and within days she was acting as if she owned the place.

That Saturday morning, Dad told me I needed to sign paperwork giving him control over the house and Daniel’s life-insurance money.

“No.”

His jaw tightened. “You’re not thinking clearly.”

“I said no.”

Madison laughed from the kitchen island. “You can barely take care of yourself. What are you going to do with a baby?”

I told them both to pack and leave.

Dad exploded.

He grabbed a fistful of my hair and dragged me backward through the foyer. I screamed, one hand protecting my stomach as he pulled me toward the front door.

“This is my house now,” he shouted.

“No, it isn’t!”

He opened the door and shoved me onto the porch.

Pain tore across my lower abdomen.

Then warm fluid ran down my legs.

My water had broken.
